Terrific Grand Teton
After spending the night in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho - that is the actual town name - we headed northeast to Grand Teton National Park.
As we entered Wyoming, we had beautiful views driving along the Snake River and watching people rafting and kayaking down the river. We stopped in Jackson Hole for lunch and saw the quaint downtown shopping area filled with a mixture of stores from cute local businesses to REI and Orvis.
Our first sight of the Grand Teton mountains was amazing- the snow-capped mountain range looked like something out of a movie. We spent the afternoon walking around Colter Bay and Maggie began working through her Grand Teton Junior Ranger tasks. We rented a cabin for something different. Two deer were just outside.
This evening we did a sunset boat/dinner cruise on Jackson Lake with the Grand Tetons towering over us. The boat, named the Rendevous, took us around Lake Jackson and out to the largest island in Wyoming (not sure that is saying much …) called Elk Island. And yes, we did see elk, along with a bald eagle. We had dinner on the island before heading back to Colter Bay, where we listened to a Park Ranger program on grizzly bears in an outdoor amphitheater on the lake. Just as the Park Ranger was finishing up, we had a surprise guest visitor - be sure to watch the video!
