Oh, Think Twice..Another Day in Paradise
On the eve of Fourth of July we spent the day touring San Antonio and learning about the fight for Texas independence from Spain. The Alamo is the number one tourist attraction in Texas for a reason - it is quite a story of bravery in the face of certain death in the fight for independence. To stand on the spot where Davey Crockett died, see where Jim Bowie was killed, and imagine the hand to hand combat in the tight quarters of the church is definitely thought provoking.
It was also interesting to learn that Phil Collins - yes, that Phil Collins of In the Air Tonight and Another Day in Paradise fame - is the foremost collector in the world of Alamo and Davey Crockett memorabilia and artifacts. He was inspired watching the Disney Davey Crockett show as a kid. A few years ago he donated his entire collection to the Alamo and they have a big exhibit hall of the artifacts and a movie narrated by Collins.
We then took a boat ride through the Riverwalk area before making our way back to the campground for a few hours of games and swimming.
And of course, now we will always … Remember the Alamo!
