Up and Down and All Around

We left the beautiful beaches of Tamarindo for a three-day adventure to La Fortuna, a small town at the base of the famous and still active Arenal Volcano. After a four-hour drive through small and large towns, across mountains on gravel roads and around a crystal blue Lake Arenal (the largest lake in Central America), we finally landed at our rain forest retreat. Here at Hotel Silencio del Campo, we are in our own private villa at the foot of the volcano in a wonderland of exotic plants and animals. After receiving a welcome smoothie, we dropped our bags to explore the perfectly manicured grounds. After visiting the small farm on the property which included donkeys, horses, chickens, sheep, cows and a little pig, we changed into our bathing suits to try out one of the five natural hot springs pools. Each pool was a different temperature, from very hot to fria (cold). The waterfalls between the pools created a relaxing sound that harmonized with the frogs when the sun went down. Our dinner consisted of adult and regular smoothies, pizza for Maggie, coconut fish for David and a chicken quesadilla for me. Maggie was asleep by 7:15 which was a miracle since our breakfast the next day is at 6:30 with a tour pickup time at 7:10. Don’t worry, Maggie is not missing out on her beauty sleep this trip.
