Rain Forest and Waterfall Wonder
Another fun day at La Fortuna! We started early in the morning with a typical Costa Rican breakfast of eggs, juevos rancheros, fruit, hot chocolate and cafe for me. We loaded the shuttle to the hanging bridges and La Fortuna waterfall. We had 9 people on the tour, two from Mexico and a family from Chicago. Maggie latched on to a woman named Anna from Mexico who she held hands with on many of the bridges. Anna just got married and was a good sport. She used to be a nanny in New Jersey and spoke English well. Maggie was a good sport walking all 16 bridges with some hanging bridges that were really high. We saw frogs, snakes, lots of plants and trees, smelled monkeys but didn’t see them, heard toucans but didn’t see them and learned a lot about the rain forest of Costa Rica. The tour guide, Roy, was very knowledgable about all the animals of Costa Rica. We even ran into a camera crew filming a movie about two people fall in love in Costa Rica. Our next stop was La Fortuna waterfall which was 500 steps down and the same 500 steps back up. Maggie was a champ. The water was really cold but the scenery was beautiful. We ended our guided tour with a “cansada” which consisted of chicken, rice, beans, mashed potatoes, salad, plantains, and mixed vegetables. When we got back to the hotel, Alejandro was nice enough to bring out a horse for Maggie to ride. We then had some quiet time and finished a wonderful day at the hot springs.
