Glass Half Full
On our way out of town in Alamogordo, we passed the world’s largest pistachio, built in 2007 and is now a registered landmark. From there, we crossed through deserts, mountains, military missile practice fields and extremely remote roadside picnic tables to get to Albuquerque. We took a break at Golden Crown Panaderia, a nationally recognized cafe known for breads and Biscochitos, the official cookie of New Mexico. The 85 year-old owner and baker has been featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives and was busy in the back baking. The pizza was delicious and so was the “World’s Best Coffee Milkshake.” We couldn’t leave without trying a couple of the sweet empanadas (cherry, lemon, apple and blueberry).
Only an hour away, we headed to Santa Fe to park for the next two days. We stopped in at Prairie Dog Glass to try our hand at glass blowing. Maggie made a flower, David a glass and I made a bowl. McKenzie the instructor was great! Maggie ended her day with a chocolate ice cream milkshake and all was good in the world.
